If you are an MSDN or Technet Subscriber, you can download Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 from your subscriber downloads. Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 were officially handed off for final release on February 9, 2001 and were made available to MSDN and Technet Subscribers on February 16.
On February 22, 2001, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 1 will be made available to the public via the Microsoft Download Center and Windows Update.
Apparently two new features in Windows Server SP1, Dynamic Memory and RemoteFX, enable sophisticated desktop virtualization capabilities:
- Dynamic Memory: Dynamic Memory lets you increase virtual machine density with the resources you already have—without sacrificing performance or scalability.
- RemoteFX: RemoteFX lets you virtualize the Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) on the server side and deliver next-generation rich media and 3D user experiences for VDI.
