Learn to Develop iPhone Applications Screencast Series from Pragmatic Programmers

I picked up an iPhone 3G over the summer and absolutely love it. Of course, I have nothing to compare it to other than a basic cell phone that I have had all these years, so don't think of this as a recommendation to purchase one.

The developer in me wants to learn how to develop iPhone Applications for it, but I know nothing about Cocoa, Xcode, Interface Builder, Objective-C, and the iPhone SDK other than I have the tools on my MacBook Pro.

I also suspect it will be way different that using Visual Studio 2008 and C#, so I am not sure how productive it would be for me to just start playing with the tools and banging on the keyboard. Alright, I admit I have already been doing that :) However, I have started looking for various iPhone Development Resources, such as iPhone Development Books and Courses.

I came across a set of iPhone Development Screencasts, called Writing Your First iPhone Application, on the Pragmatic Programmers site with each screencast costing $5. You can get the whole development series for whats looks to be about $25.

There is a free screencast preview of the series as well as a link to a free movie, entitled Getting Started with Xcode and Interface Builder.

If you are interested in developing iPhone Applications, it may be worth a look. I haven't purchased the screencasts, but it certainly looks like a good possible first step to see if you are interested in iPhone Development before you throw a chunk of change on iPhone Development Training.

If you would prefer to purchase a book on iPhone Development, many of the books are still pending to be printed, but I did notice one book available with pretty decent reviews:

The iPhone Developer's Cookbook: Building Applications with the iPhone SDK (Developer's Library)
