Enterprise Library 4.1 and Unity 1.2 Project Kickoff

We have the much anticipated project kickoff of Enterprise Library 4.1 and Unity 1.2. Grigori Melnik, product manager at Microsoft Patterns & Practices for Enterprise Library and Unity, mentions a small list of items for Enterprise Library 4.1 and Unity 1.2:

"On July 31 we have kicked off the EntLib4.1 and Unity 1.2 project. This is a minor service release. In it, we address several bugs and enhancements, and provide the following features:

  • Collections support in the Unity Application Block (Unity dependency injection container)
  • Improved support for generics in Unity
  • Interception mechanism in Unity (including integration with the Policy Injection Application Block)
  • Improved type picker of the config tool (this one needed a face lift for a long time)
  • Debugging visualizer (to allow for easy navigation of mappings, corresponding lifetime policies as well as container extensions)."

In particular, I am looking forward to an Interception Mechanism in Unity which is far more lighter weight than the Policy Injection Application Block's use of Remoting Proxies. Not sure if that is going to happen, but the fact that they will be providing Unity Integration with the Policy Injection Application Block is a good thing. I actually expected PIAB integration with Unity in EntLib 4.0, but apparently that didn't make the deadline.

You can check out the list for Enterprise Library 4.1 and Unity 1.2 directly from Grigori here.
